Day Trips to Explore Telegraph Creek or Gnat Pass

Telegraph Creek is located 113 km (70 miles) west of Dease Lake on the banks of the Stikine. The Telegraph Creek road was initially built in 1922 and parallels the Tanzilla River. Gnat Pass is a shorter drive 60 km south of Dease Lake and boasts great scenery from the car of subalpine environment. ATV/snow mobiling and hiking trails lead from the highway.

Northern Lights/Aurora Viewing Opportunities

We are far enough north to view the aurora/northern lights (Sept-April). We recommend you find a remote, dark spot (even on the far back of our property) to view them. A locals tip: the aurora is sporadic and random and recommend a guest stay for 4 nights to have the best chance of viewing them (no guarantees!)

Hiking/Backpacking – Spatsizi Plateau or Mount Edziza Provincial Parks

Within the robust wilderness of Northern BC lays a hikers gem! Spatsizi Plateau Wilderness Provincial Park is a provincial park protecting most of the Spatsizi Plateau or Mount Edziza Provincial Park which is a volcanic natural wonder known worldwide (accessible from Telegraph Creek or Kinaskan Lake) for the most experienced outdoors people. So many natural gems surround Dease Lake.

Fishing/Icefishing

The Dease Lake area is not only rich in forested land, but offers locals and tourists a vast choice of lakes and rivers to fish from, including icefishing! A great spot is just across the road at Allan Lake. Fishing licenses can be purchased online via BC Government.

05

Hunting/Outfitting

Please read current rules and regulations for hunting in our area. Non BC residents require a guided outfitter and recommend you reach out with an outfitter before planning your stay.

Jade City

Jade City is located approximately 1.5 hours North of Dease Lake, along the Stewart/Cassiar Hwy. It is a must-do for tourists, as it boasts a gallery/store that sells the locally mined jade. Hard to believe, but 90% of the world’s jade from there!! Mining today is a huge economic driver in the Dease Lake area.

Air Tours – Float Planes & Helicopter

Dease Lake has two locally owned/operated bases for Sea Plane tours as well as Helicopter tours. We recommend our guests to reach out to the respective operators for booking tours before they travel to Dease Lake as prebooking is common.

Local Crafts and Gifts

Our lodge has a small gift shop for you to browse through some lovely items! Many of the artisans are make-by-order as well, so if there is something you’d like to source out, please contact us and we can get a hold of the right people for you to get in touch! As a great treat, our lodge has home made jams as well!
